The First Week of 2011 – Day 2

As Henry David Thoreau so famously stated:

“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. I think there is nothing, not even crime, more opposed to poetry, to philosophy, ay, to life itself than this incessant business.”

A resolution I have made (and amazingly kept) for years, is to read as often as I possibly can. Many of you know this, as I reference articles and books often in my writing.  I believe books are indeed one of the greatest gifts we are given.  They can truly enlarge our world, our views, and our dreams.

I would like to propose this year, we make a mental note to ourselves to make time to read, in whatever form this may take: Kindle, hardback, or paperback. Each month I highlight books focused individual, leadership, and organizational growth and alignment on my website in the Alignment Library: http://www.alignmentinc.com/aligning-your-business/alignment-library.htmlThis may be a great place to start if you need suggestions!

Yet, lets not limit ourselves. Lets spread our wings. Lets read books that are outside our comfort zone. Those that stretch our capacities. Those that challenge our ingrained beliefs. Those that broaden us.

2011 is a new year to grow, learn, and explore. Books are a wonderful path through which and on which to travel! Let’s resolve to take that mental trip!
