Recently I picked up Dale Carnegie’s classic, “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” and became reintroduced to the incredible wisdom in this book. I wanted to share the highlights of one chapter which I thought was relevant particularly to a few clients with whom I am working. The chapter is entitled: “How to Make People Like You.” Nothing in this chapter is rocket science; yet, these tips are worthy of revisiting.
1. Become genuinely interested in other people. Of course, the operative word in this principle is genuinely.
3. Remember the sweetest sound in any language is a person’s name.
4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
5. Talk in terms of the other person’s interests – not your own.
6. Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely. The operative word in this tip is sincerely.
